Donor: Clara Buchanan
This beautiful rug was hand hooked by Clara Buchanan. She created it for St. Mark's Hall in 1960 and it was used in Chancel for years. It was also displayed in Christ Church Cathedral for a time.
Each block represents a part of the Easter story.
Top row:
Alpha and Omega - the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet, a symbol that God is the first and the last, the beginning and the end
IHS - the first 3 letters of Jesus in Greek
Star of Bethlehem - led the wise men of the East (the 3 Kings or Magi) to Jesus
Middle row:
Heart - love and forgiveness
Cross - Jesus' death and resurrection, sacrifice and salvation
Ascension Flower - purity, innocence, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ
Bottom Row:
Crown - the crown of thorns that Jesus wore on the cross and the crown of glory given to him in heaven
Dove - peace
Triangle in Circle - the points of the triangle represent the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the circle has no beginning or end
